I am Rumil, an elf and Marchwarden of Lothlorien. I am the youngest of three brothers, both of whom are also protectors of the Golden Wood. I speak little Common Tongue, but I am trying to learn more.

Watching from Celebrant // Goldberry + Rumil

The young elf nodded, listening to her speak. He could understand, in a way, how it wouldn’t be lonely for her. She seemed content to watch, plus she had a husband to keep her company, it seemed. Rumil didn’t think that he would be too lonely either, with a life like that as long as he had his brothers with him. After all, it wasn’t like he had many friends. When not with his brothers he spent most of his time alone in the forest.

“Yes, that’s true. I’ve learned a lot about the forest and the creatures that live here by just watching them. I like to watch the animals scurry around, especially the rabbits. They are my favorite. Many of them have become my friends.” He gave Goldberry a shy little smile. “It’s nice to meet you, Miss Goldberry.”

“Oh yes I know. I’ve seen them scamper about you when you are out of doors. And the trees like you too. Their whispers are always more pleasant to listen to when you’re among them.” With that she lifted the water lily she had in her small hands and stuck it behind the fair-haired elf’s pointed ear. “There, you may have that too for it was nice to finally meet you as well, Rumil.

The River Daughter let out a content sigh before relaxing back into the water a bit. “Lothlorien is always so very beautiful. Your Lady Galadriel takes great care of it as well as her people, I can tell, for the trees here are happier and there is much light present. I remember a time when The Old Forest was like that, back when most everything was new.”

“Many of the creatures have become my friends. Rabbits and chipmunks, mostly. They’re a joy to be about. Many like to crawl in my lap and snuggle close when I’m reading.” Furry friends seemed to be the only sort of friends the young elf had. He was shy when it came to his own kind, with the exception of his brothers, of course. But perhaps he could make a friend in Goldberry, for she seemed to be a kindred spirit.

Rumil beamed as she placed the water lily behind his ear. He would press it in a book and keep it forever once he got back to the talan that he shared with his brothers. He couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty that he didn’t have anything to give her in return. If there had been flowers near by, he would have made her a flower crown. “Thank you, Miss Goldberry. I wish I had something to give you in return.”

He nodded a bit and smiled. “I haven’t been out of Lothlorien very many times, though I don’t really have the desire to leave these woods. They’re so beautiful. It’s a peaceful place. Sometimes I feel as though I could live here forever.”
