“Don’t…you get lonely? Just watching people and not interacting?” Rumil wasn’t afraid of her at all. He was a bit startled by her presence at first, but her demeanor seemed sweet and genuine. She was odd, this River Lady, and he couldn’t help but be curious. He cocked his head to the side and then grinned a little.
“Yes, I think that you did. Though now that I have found you, I would like to know your name. You know, since you know mine. I wouldn’t want to be rude by just calling you River Lady.” Rumil gave her a sheepish little smile.
“Not too lonely. Tom and I don’t like to just stick our noses into the business of other people, though he occasionally goes to converse with a hobbit farmer every so often. But…” The gold haired maid grinned a bit sheepishly. “It doesn’t mean I can’t watch and listen. You can learn a lot by just observing, you know.”
She ran her small fingers idly over a nearby water lily, caressing the flat, smooth petals. “As for my name, forgive my rudeness in not telling you sooner. You can call me just plain ‘Goldberry’ if you like.”
The young elf nodded, listening to her speak. He could understand, in a way, how it wouldn’t be lonely for her. She seemed content to watch, plus she had a husband to keep her company, it seemed. Rumil didn’t think that he would be too lonely either, with a life like that as long as he had his brothers with him. After all, it wasn’t like he had many friends. When not with his brothers he spent most of his time alone in the forest.
“Yes, that’s true. I’ve learned a lot about the forest and the creatures that live here by just watching them. I like to watch the animals scurry around, especially the rabbits. They are my favorite. Many of them have become my friends.” He gave Goldberry a shy little smile. “It’s nice to meet you, Miss Goldberry.”
